Day 2-- 08/06/08

After breakfast, we waited at the hotel lobby for our local tour guide and our tour mates. To our surprise, there were only 2 of us!! Just me n xiuting.. plus the tour guide cum driver. so weird... seems like we chartered the car and had someone to drive us around...

At taoyuan station, we took the bullet train (Tw high speed rail) to taipei main station.

Following the bullet train experience, we went to National Taiwan Democracy Memorial hall... While we walked in, beautiful flower beds can be seen... At the 2 sides, the temple-liked structure opera performance stage were still under construction... We climbed up a flight of 85 steps if i din rmb wrongly to reach Chiang Kai-Shek memorial hall...

Next, after few hrs of car journey, we reached Chiufen... It is located in the hills of Northern Taiwan... Originally, it was an old mining town... It was now converted into an ancient town selling lots of famous local snacks. We had one and a half hr there to walk around and had lunch (at our own expenses)... We wanted to try the famous Fuzhou fishball noodle but the shop was too packed. We had fishball noodles instead. Their fishball taste differently from the usual fishball we had in sg. Ours is definitely nicer... wahaha... I wanted to try the Chiufen yam ball soup as it seemed so delicious... but din in e end... one and a half hr is way too short for everything...We chanced upon an interesting choc shop... The packaging of the candies or chocolates were in the shape of tablets, kotex, sypringe, plasters etc.. so interesting... Towards the end of the long street, there was a nice scenery of the houses downhill facing the sea...
As this was our 2nd day, and due to time constraint, we din buy anything from Chiufen which we kinda regretted...

Our next stop is Meihua Lake. Beside the lake, was a taoism temple. Personally, I dun think the lake is nice. Oops. haha. We spent a short 15 mins there and left. BUT but but... the tour guide Mr Wang actually brought us around to see the Meihua lake from diff angle. Omg... Along the way, the tour guide treated us the popiah-like snack called 花生冰 . It was a combi of peanuts, maiya sweet and 2 scoops of icecream, wrapped in popiah skin. To me, it tasted super sweet. I ate like 1/4 of it onli. Xt seems to like it. she ate more than half. We secretly threw the leftovers away. The tour guide himself said that it was too sweet too.. chiufen de is nicer. haha. We shld had try it in chiufen lah... haha

Along the way to Hualien, we drove past pacific ocean. The sea was so bluish and clear. The clouds were so cotton white. The combi of the beautiful ocean and the clouds made me feel as if I am in a gallery viewing a scenic pic. I started taking out my camera and start snapping. As we were ahead of time (most prob coz we din stay long at the Meihua lake and the temple), the tour guide was nice.. He stopped somewhere to let us walk around the beach. Marvellous. Clap clap. It was kind of windy, The sand was greyish black instead of the usual beige white color. It would be nicer if the sand were of the usual color.. haha.. nevertheless, I enjoyed myself.. walking along the never ending beach, with the cool breeze... I juz luv this kinda blue ocean. Looking at it sure can make me forget all my misery and troubles... Den the tedious part came, as it started drizzling, we had to walk quickly to our car.. uphill!! with many many steps though it wasnt very steep, it was a "challenge" for the 2 weak ah ma... wahaha...

After that, we headed for a unique dance by the A-Mei aborginal tribe. Only the last part which they danced and jump around with the bamboos caught my attention. Anw, during the performance, there was this local lady standing at the coordinating room with transparent glass, dancing her way thru. Either she din realise the audience can see her dance or she is trying to catch pple's attention. haha.. The performance was so so to me.. Well, I m more interested with scenery ma.. haha..

We had the sticky rice in bamboo pot for dinner. It was nice.. the rice was like glutinuous rice to me but with a fade sweet smell. After dinner, we headed for our hotel at 4* Gold coast Union. Having high expectations for it (coz our first nite hotel was great), we were kinda dissappointed. While we were watching tv, my dear sleeping beauty fell into her deep sleep again.. leaving me alone.. sigh.. That marks the end of my second day.

I dun like 花生冰 but i like the ice cream in it. Actually i felt like telling the tour guide not to buy cause it looked so ugly and unappetizing, but wanna treat us.. so hard to refuse. I know Gwen cannot finish her 花生冰 so i must try to eat as much of mine as possible, if not a bit paiseh when both of us had to throw away so much of it. hehe.
